This is my HSC Elective Composition, titled "The Riftwar Overture".
It is based upon Raymond E Feist's epic fantasy work, "The Magician". (If you haven't read it, i strongly suggest you get it and read it.) It was epic enough to inspire me to compose a piece of music on it.
Due to it falling under the Romantic Period topic, i wanted to capture certain emotions, and i wanted the listener to feel these emotions in the respective melodies.
The Crydee Melody - Happiness, bliss, pre-war peace. Here you can picture yourself walking through Crydee, amongst a youthful Pug and Tomas.
The Tsurani Theme - Chaos, Destruction, to capture the overwhelming Tsurani invasion of Midkemia in music. Rushing strings, combined with the accented brass/piano/percussion notes make this easily one of the most epic things i have come up with.
The Great One Theme - Power, rebellion, overthrow. I always called this the "FEAR ME, FOR I AM POWER" Melody, because that part of the book is just the most metal thing to ever happen ever. This section is the Crydee Melody, transposed into a minor key and with some variations added.
and return to the Crydee Melody.
